| Well Christmas and the New Year are over and I hope that Santa was good to all of you and that 2012 will be a prosperous and pleasant year. I know I am very grateful for all my blessings and I am looking forward to the coming year. I have made my resolutions, most of which are more wishes than realistic but I am always optomistic! However should you read in the papers later this year about the elderly gentleman from England who qualified for the US Open Golf Tournament, remember you heard it here first! Seriously I have made a pledge to myself to improve my golf game, maybe not to the US Open standard (I should be so lucky) but enough to play with my regular buddies and make them envious! I also am going to make an effort to upgrade this website and make it more interesting. With that in mind remember any contributions to the content are welcomed so send in those book reviews, humor and pictures and anything else that might interest our readers! I received several books for Christmas and reviews of them will be posted as I slowly get through them. I would like to extend a warm welcome to members of the Computer and Technology Group, Area 2 of the SIR group. For those of you visiting for the first time links to the other pages are on the left. I am going to make the SIG pages common to both the DVPC user group, where I am a member, and with the CAT area 2 Group. So any CAT members who want to submit pictures for the SIG gallery or ideas for tutorials please don't hesitate, I welcome new material and ideas! Also if anyone has bought or read a new book and would like to submit a review that would be appreciated. I have also added "Today in History" a glimpse of what happened on a particular calendar day. Check it out at the bottom of the "Useful Links" page. For newcomers to the site please visit "Book Reviews" where I will try to give honest previews of books I purchase or receive from publishers, both computer related and others. I also welcome reviews from third parties, if you have recently purchased a new computer or technology related book please feel free to send me a review. I am considering expanding this to more than books to include anything I purchase that might be of interest to others. I would also like your input here, have you purchased something recently, (a new camera, computer, car, software, gadget etc.) that you really like or don't like, lemons are welcome, why don't you write a review and I will put it up here. Check out also the SIG Gallery page. I am posting interesting photographs sent in by SIG members or from anyone in the CAT group or anyone else with a distinctive image so get yours onto the web! I have added a page titled "Ships etc." which some of you might find interesting. It has taken me quite some time to put all this together but I hope you like it. Let me know by clicking on the e-mail link on the left and giving me your input. I will try to update the content at least monthly and should you have any contributions in the way of photographs to add to the gallery, additional useful links, good (or bad) books you have read or any other reviews please let me know and I will include them in the site. For DVPC Elements SIG and CAT members I have now added more tutorials, there are now more than twenty on the Elements SIG Tutorials page The last addition "Color Management between Camera and Printer" was added on October 27, 2011. The latest issue of the Elements SIG quarterly newsletter, December 2011, is posted. Also read the "Book Reviews" page for the latest Elements books and some non computer book reviews. The last review was posted on October 15, 2011. To create this site I have used Adobe Creative Suite 5, Web Premium, which includes Dreamweaver CS5 and Photoshop CS5. I still use Webstyle4 by Xara for creating flash buttons etc. If you are into web design you certainly need Dreamweaver although it is expensive. Xara on the other hand is priced quite modestly. I also took advantage of a great site www.feebleminds-gif.com for animated gif's such as the e-mail banner you see on the left. I use 1 & 1 for my web hosting, a great service at very reasonable prices. They beat anyone including Big Daddy and Yahoo and their service is excellent. Click on the banner ad on the left for further details. |
